Cenizo Journal Winter 2020 | Page 7

T C eni zo Notes by Carolyn Brown Zniewski, Danielle Gallo, and Riley Stephens here is a new publisher in town, Riley Stephens. I moved north to Minnesota to be near my family. It has given me a chance to renew some old friendships. I truly miss Marathon and Big Bend and stay in touch as much as possible. I found it difficult to continue to publish this wonderful, regional journal at such a great distance, and health concerns have slowed me down as well. I intend to keep writing and I have been promised a lifetime subscription to the Cenizo. Danielle is staying on as editor. As an old timer in West Texas, Riley will be doing a bang-up job as the new publisher. I am very satisfied with my years as publisher. I loved doing it. It was a return to a path I was following when I was in my 20s. The Cenizo is such a valuable community asset, reflecting the excellent local businesses, writers, artists, ranchers, rogues and rascals. I offer a toast to many more years of stories and pictures of an incredibly fine community. Ciao. CZ “My crown is called content, a crown that seldom kings enjoy.” Wm Shakespeare. T his year marks the tenth year that I’ve had the privilege of working for the Cenizo. In that time, I’ve learned so much, first from Dallas Baxter, and then from Carolyn Brown Zniewski, both dedicated publishers who gave wholeheartedly to this showcase of the best the Big Bend has to offer. Now, I’m very pleased to be working for Blue Sky Productions and Riley Stephens, to help continue this magazine. The Cenizo Journal is a labor of love for everyone, from our excellent writers, artists and photographers to the staff who make it possible, from our advertisers and distributors to our readers and supporters. This is a forum for the Big Bend community to express itself creatively, and for an ongoing discussion of our history, arts and culture. I’ve always felt the Cenizo not only preserves and interprets who we are, but also helps to shape who we are becoming out here in Far West Texas. I want to thank Carolyn Brown Zniewski for her wonderful leadership over the past six years as the owner and publisher of this magazine. Her time, effort and love has helped to shape the Cenizo into what it is today. I want to thank Riley Stephens as well, for taking up the mantle of this tradition so that it can continue. I’m looking forward to the next decade of Cenizo with all of you, our dedicated readers. SUBSCRIPTIONS Print subscriptions will be mailed for $29 annually. Copyright of all art and images contained within are retained by the image owner and are used with permission. I ’ve eagerly read the Cenizo Journal since its creation by Dallas Baxter in 2009. Forty- three creative and inspiring issues, published first by Dallas and then Carolyn, have chronicled the people and history of this unique Texas region. My hope is to bring the same quality and content to you for many years to come. This is not my first publishing venture, having produced numerous print publications of all types in my 35+ years in this business. Providing this type of publication is some of my favorite work, as it allows the people and creativity of Far West Texas to shine in its pages. I’m honored to head this effort, but it is truly brought to you by a team of very talented writers and photographers, our Editor and Associate Editor, Designer and, of course, our advertisers. And as a small business owner, like the businesses who advertise with us, I’m certain they would like to see you personally and know you saw their ad in these pages. That’s an excellent way to support this region and the Cenizo Journal. We are each firmly committed to carrying forward the vision originally articulated for the Cenizo Journal – “dedicated to chronicling the history and people of Far West Texas through the work of writers, artists, poets and photographers.” Join us as a regular reader or advertiser as we work hard to fulfill this worthy goal.
