Kokernot Mesa – Brewster County After a long morning and afternoon touring Big Bend Ranch State Park , we were treated to evening rainstorms popping up in the distance . I couldn ’ t stop looking at the clouds as I continued to drive north . As I approached the mesa , I saw the wonderful opportunity forming . I quickly pulled over , grabbed my gear and set up for this shot .
Desert Milky Way – Fort Davis The dark skies of West Texas are stunning . I ’ ve photographed the Milky Way several times in the high desert . On this particular night , the evening started out with several clouds covering the scene . I waited and waited as the clouds slowly drifted away . I repositioned to a different location to find that the Milky Way was dropping perfectly between these two Century Plants . I love the desert sky .
Mitre Peak – Fort Davis / Alpine ' Always look behind you ' has been a lesson I continue to learn when out photographing . This particular evening , I was focusing on the setting sun over Blue Mountain in the Davis Mountains . As I waited for the sun to set , I decided to look to the east ( southeast to be precise ) and saw this magnificent storm cloud forming on the south side of Mitre Peak . More often than not , I come back with a different shot than I anticipate before going shooting .

Lunar Spell – Fort Davis I love getting out and photographing night images . From big city skylines to the stars in extremely remote areas , I just love the illumination of the night sky . On this occasion , I got to witness a blood moon rising in the Chihuahuan Desert of West Texas . This shot was a bit before the lunar eclipse in July 2018 .
