CAPTAIN NATHALY ALBÁN took command of Celebrity Xploration in August 2017 , becoming the first female seafarer to navigate the Galapagos as captain . She is responsible for the safe operation of the ship and the onboard experience of its guests and crew members .

Captain Albán was one of only six women in her graduating class at La Escuela de la Marina Mercante Nacional , in Ecuador . Prior to graduating , she held a variety of roles in the maritime industry , most notably serving in the Flopec tanker fleet of the Ecuadoran navy . With a total of 12 years ’ experience sailing throughout the Galapagos , Captain Albán has worked on several ships in the region , first joining the Celebrity family in 2006 as third officer on board the renowned Celebrity Xpedition .
