Thirteen Reasons Why is a 2007 young adult novel written by Jay Asher. The book was published by RazorBill, a young adult imprint of Penguin Books. The paperback edition hit #1 on the New York Times best-seller list in July 2011. A controversial mini-series that addresses the hottest topic of the decade “bullying”. A common teenage dilemma which is addressed in this outstanding drama.
The novel begins as our narrator, Clay Jensen finds a box outside his house We soon learn that the package contains the audiotaped suicide note of Hannah Baker, a girl Clay had a crush on before she killed herself about two weeks ago. The mini-series is a roller coaster ride portraying a series of audio tapes that explain why Hannah Baker committed suicide.
It points fingers to the people who were directly related to her death. Throughout the series all the guilty parties try their best to shift the blame on to Hannah claiming that she is not who she seems to be. While her parents sue the school of resulting in their daughter’s death.
A steady 13-episode descent into grief and emotional confusion, 13 Reasons Why is an honorably mature piece of young-adult adaptation, fleshing out Jay Asher's well-regarded novel in a way that allows its cold-hearted high-school environment to breathe while revolving around tremendous lead turns by Dylan Minnette and particularly Australian newcomer Katherine Langford.
The success of this mini-series has been brilliant to the point that there is talk of season 2 in 2018 . The drama has also touched many people in this age group and has extended into becoming a help team as well, for people who face bullying in school like Hannah through their website.
