Rags to Riches: Sylvester Stalone
Sylvester Stallone’s story is considered a fairy tale or a movie. This actor’s career rose from a tough situation to the fames and riches that he now enjoys. His story is inspirational and gives a reminder to everyone, no matter what circumstances or situation you are in, there is always hope and a way to get back up on your feet, only if you’re committed.
Stallone attended school in Philadelphia, after school he went to college, and decided to drop out before
graduation to purse his acting career. So, Stallone took a plane ticket to New York, there he auditioned for every casting agent in his area with little to no success. Stallone decided to turn more to writing and he wrote screenplays whilst waiting for his career to start.
Despite the struggle to build a name for himself, he kept auditioning with a rejection after the other. Stallone had run out of money and was desperate. He could barely feed his family yet alone himself. Stallone would wander every day through the streets of New York and he usually went to the library where he read books from writers such as Edgar allan poe, which gave his future writing a better taste
One day Stallone was sitting at home watching a fight between Weppner and Muhammad Ali, he saw that Weppner was getting destroyed, yet he kept fighting back even though his chances of winning were slim to none. That inspired him to begin writing his inspiration from this fighter, he wrote for over 24 hours straight and after that time he had written the script to Rocky. He began trying to sell his script to producers, he was so poor that he had to sell his best friend, his dog. Someone bought the dog for around $50 dollars, it hurt him to do that. Finally someone agreed to do the movie, he told them that he wanted the play the role of Rocky, but they declined. A couple of weeks later they contacted him with a whopping 400,000 dollars and he still declined because he wanted to play the role of Rocky.
