LOVE POUNDBURY With a recent influx of new residents and businesses and a strong sense of community, it’ s perhaps no surprise that there’ s a new networking and social group called Love Poundbury. The group was founded by Kate Atkinson of Bridal Reloved and Charlotte Polley of Boo ' s Toy Shop. Love Poundbury meets once a month to share their love of all things Poundbury via social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Owner of Bridal Reloved, Kate Atkinson believes the group is a great way to share local information.“ We’ re a small group at the moment, but we try to feed out information about Poundbury to people who are interested.“ There’ s so many great things that go on in the community.” Love Poundbury is a mix of residents and businesses, which provides a varied source of news and updates. Kate adds:“ If you live in Poundbury, follow the hashtag # LovePoundbury and you can find out about things going on in the community and it’ s an easy way to tap into what’ s happening.“ We meet up about once a month and it’ s usually very informal.”
HEART AND SOUL COMMUNITY CHOIR Calling all singers, Poundbury’ s very own Heart and Soul Community Choir would like to hear from you. They meet at the Quiet Space, behind the Poundbury Garden Centre, on Tuesdays between 7pm and 8.30pm during term time. Run by singer and teacher Kathie Prince, the friendly group is perfect for anyone who enjoys singing in a supportive environment. Heart and Soul Community Choir sing an eclectic mix of songs,
including gospel, folk, world music, pop songs old and new and original pieces composed for special events. There’ s no need to read music and the sessions are informal and fun. Kathie says:“ The choir is going from strength to strength. Numbers are increasing and we now have over 40 people on the books.” They’ ve been singing together for three years and in that time have sung on several occasions with Dorchester-based VIVA Women’ s Choir, forming the Dorchester Community Chorus and winning Best Large Choir of the Weymouth Music Festival in 2014 and 2015. Heart and Soul Community Choir have also performed in Heartwood, an original outdoor piece and part of the 2014 Inside Out Festival, have sung their hearts out at the annual Christmas Concerts in St Georges Church, Fordington, performed at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester and last summer gave a concert in aid of the Weldmar Trust at the Engine Room in Poundbury. The group is currently gearing up for their big concert of the year on Saturday 17th December in St Georges Church, Fordington. The Three Choirs Christmas Concert will see the Heart and Soul Community Choir in action alongside women ' s choir VIVA! and children ' s choir Skylarks.
