FOOD & DRINK Bonjour Café DINHAM WALK Head through the centre of Poundbury along Bridport Road and you will come across the Café on the Green in Dinham Walk. A charming and friendly café, it gives young adults with learning difficulties the opportunity to gain valuable work experience. In a perfect spot with tables and chairs facing the fountains, choose from breakfast and lunch menus or a delicious cake and coffee. This summer, Café on the Green has taken over the kiosk in Borough Gardens so visit them in town too. From Café on the Green you can see House of Dorchester, which as well as a factory producing quality chocolates sent around the world houses a local favourite – an outlet shop selling bags of flavoured chocolates and goodies for a bargain price! PUMMERY SQUARE Brace of Butchers Duchess of Cornwall Inn QUEEN MOTHER SQUARE The bustling Queen Mother Square is surrounded by a choice of independent eateries offering menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner to take you through the day. Centre-stage is the grand pub Duchess of Cornwall Inn, run by Hall & Woodhouse, serving a great selection of food and drink from 8am until close. Cafés around the Square include the Engine Room restaurant – part of Poundbury Garden Centre – and Olives Et Al, which as well as a deli shop serves a full breakfast, brunch and lunch menu and also opens for tapas on Friday evenings. There is also a popular café for a quick pick-me-up inside Waitrose. In the summer months, Jalopy Pizza visits Queen Mother Square on Wednesday evenings, serving up freshly-baked pizzas from its eye- catching van – a popular addition for the summer period. BUTTERMARKET Wind your way to the shops and business in The Buttermarket and you will find top coffee spot Finca in the landmark Buttercross building. With a beautiful position overlooking The Buttermarket, outside tables and chairs make the perfect spot for enjoying Finca’s coffee, with beans from its own roastery in Dorchester, tempting morning pastries, lunch time toasted sandwiches and afternoon cakes. A few doors down is Bramble Café and Deli – owned by Masterchef winner Mat Follas. He is a proud supporter of local ingredients and as well as breakfasts, lunches and cakes, Bramble opens on Friday and Saturday evenings and on Sunday lunchtimes serves up cracking roast dinners. Book ahead! Buttermarket is also home to Bonbons, a colourful and traditional sweetshop filled with jars and jars of tempting sweets that will take you back to your childhood. With an extensive menu and fresh décor inside, the pub also serve a popular carvery on Sundays and take-away fish and chips. Just opposite is Café Octagon serving delicious freshly baked cakes, afternoon tea and lunches. It has peaceful outdoor seating tucked away in one of the winding side streets. POUNDBURY FARMERS’ MARKET On the first Saturday each month (from 9am until 1pm) foodies flock to Queen Mother Square to choose from the array of stalls and pop-up shops. From artisan bakeries to fresh crabs and seafood, it really is a display of Dorset’s finest produce. Just outside of Poundbury, the Brewers Arms in Martinstown has an excellent selection of specials. Follow the public footpath via Middle Farm Way to Martinstown and stop in for lunch.
