Poundbury is quickly making a name for
itself as a foodie destination for visitors while
the many cafés and restaurants have become
a treasured part of Poundbury life for its
residents and businesses
Poundbury residents need not go far for their groceries with
Waitrose perfectly positioned on Queen Mother Square. But look
a little deeper and you will find independent, quality food shops
and delis filled with local treats.
The award-winning Brace of Butchers in Queen Mother Square
is not like your usual butcher. It stands out from the crowd with
its wonderful cuts of lo cally sourced meat, accompanied by
expert advice from the friendly staff and ready-to-cook dishes
such as beef wellington. There is also a well-stocked cheese
counter, fresh vegetables beautifully displayed in baskets and
Evershot Bakery bread. Local sparkling wines, ales, ciders and
spirits are also on offer while freshly dressed Portland crab from
Sally’s Fish Camp can be ordered and collected in store for a
weekend treat.
Brace has now become a popular lunch destination for
Poundbury’s many business workers and residents looking for
lunch on the go with a daily menu offering tempting hot take-
away lunches, salads and soups as well as pasties and pies. And
with the summer upon us, Brace of Butchers Friday BBQs have
returned!
Dorset Wine Company, also in Queen Mother Square, offers
an incredible array of wine, spirits, ales and cider. Its popularity
has led to special evening tasting sessions at the shop, again
creating important social activities for residents. For bakers,
Angel Cake Company just off Peverell Avenue is run by sisters
Nicci and Emma who make an occasion extra special with their
fantastic cakes.
The deli shop at Olives et al, annexed to the popular Poundbury
Garden Centre, offers giant bowls of olives to choose from
alongside shelves stocked with luxury crackers and preserves to
accompany its cheese counter, local biscuits, Piddle Valley ales
and their own signature salad dressings to name but a few.
