Their business is nestled in the courtyard they share with the Dorset Creative Arts Centre and Weymouth College Stonemasonry School. Across the road is the fascinating headquarters of Dorwest Herbs. The business has been in Managing Director Jo Boughton-White ' s family for generations and 18 months ago she moved the business to Poundbury so it could expand. This year, Dorwest is celebrating 70 years in business, with brand new products as well as their popular veterinary and pet herbal products such as calming tablets. It wasn’ t until the 1960s and 70s that Dorwest really came into its own and started specialising in the veterinary market. This injection of energy, knowledge and passion came from my parents Mary and Tony Boughton who transformed Dorwest Herbs and grew it to the company it is today.” The fascinating veterinary products made by Dorwest are now sold in 20 countries and revered at top dog shows such as Crufts. The ground floor is a sterile factory where the products are produced and upstairs is home to their 17 members of staff. The couple say the move to Poundbury has been great for the company, allowing it to expand, benefit from better transport links and be part of a wider business community. From animal health to wellness for adults, moving on up through Poundbury and crossing through the Buttermarket we stopped to see Ruth Cowell at Poundbury Pilates. Ruth moved to Poundbury from London to set up her dream pilates studio.
