chock full of puppets, music, comedy and thrills.
INTO THE NEW YEAR
The New Year is a great time to start filling in the 2018 calendar
with events not to be missed. Celebrating Poundbury’s website
regularly updates its events guide so have a look online. February
sees a special visit from Dippy the Dinosaur to the Dorset County
Museum on his UK tour.
With Spring to look forward to, Dorset’s farms open their gates
for lambing season, allowing visitors to learn about the importance
of farming to the local community and watch some live action!
Locally, Kingston Maurward hosts an annual lambing weekend in
March taking place on the third and fourth of the month.
Easter is a great time of year in Dorset, not least for all the
wonderful Easter egg hunts that take place around the county.
Since opening in 2013, Boo’s Toy Shop in Poundbury’s Buttermarket
has organised lots of community events and has become well-
known for its annual Easter egg hunt. The Easter bunny visits to
hand out chocolate eggs to the children who take part.

National Trust attractions, including Corfe Castle, Kingston Lacy
and Thomas Hardy’s houses in both Thorncombe Wood and
Max Gate.
Weymouth's historic sea defence, Nothe Fort has regular events
taking place throughout the year.
There are many highlights on the Dorset events calendar taking
place before the busy summer season starts again.
DORCHESTER MARATHON
On the back of the success of Dorchester’s first marathon
and half marathon, the next one is gearing up to be even bigger
and is already widely supported. The date will be Sunday
27 May 2018. All money raised on the day will be donated to
The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, local charities and
good cause by Dorchester Rotary.
In total, more than £13,000 has been raised for good causes
and almost £6,000 of it was handed out at the celebration event.
There were around 1,400 runners in the two races through
a route that takes in Dorchester town centre and surrounding
villages.
The event was set up originally to raise money for local
charities and good causes as well as to support the local economy
and inspire community participation. The organisers are pleased
with the success of the event, bringing 3,000 extra visitors to the
county town over the weekend.
