T
he coming months promise a whole host of spooky autumnal
delights, festive favourites and New Year delights. So while we can’t
promise you sunshine, we can promise you never a dull moment with
our guide to Dorset events.
A DORSET CHRISTMAS
Christmas is a magical time for getting out and about in Dorset. The calendar
is full of festive events to celebrate the Christmas season and take you into the
New Year.
From seasonal food and craft shows to traditional pantos, there is something
for everyone this Christmas.
In Poundbury, the Buttermarket hosts both a lights switch on Friday 24
November and the following day the businesses host a festive market. This event
features toasted marshmallows, mulled wine, craft stalls and lots of delicious food
as well as festive gifts.
Seasonal celebrations in Dorchester can only truly begin after the town’s annual
Christmas Cracker night on 7 December. The Christmas lights are switched on at
6.30pm and the High Street is lined with charity stalls and local food and craft.
Many of the town’s shops open late and offer Christmas discounts or freebies
to shoppers.
A few days before Christmas, Weymouth beach is the scene of herds of Santas
chasing one Christmas pudding – and as if that wasn’t enough, Christmas Day sees
hundreds of people swimming across Weymouth Harbour!
PANTO ROUND-UP
The traditional pantomine season is upon us and there is plenty of choice in
productions this year. Oh, yes there is!
Weymouth’s annual panto is popular locally and this year Sleeping Beauty will
