A BITE-SIZE TASTE
OF DORSET FARE
This year saw foodies from across the county make a
culinary pilgrimage to Poundbury for a slice of the annual
Dorset Food & Arts Festival.
that’s good about Dorset produce.
Produced exclusively for this year’s festival
was the new Dorset Food & Arts Festival
recipe book.
This collection of recipes was a tribute to
committee member and Festival founder
Jo Yeatman who sadly passed away in May
2017.
Proving a real hit, the book was snapped
up by many visitors to the Festival and is
still available to buy now from the Festival
website at £5.
The proceeds go directly to the Dorset
Farmers’ markets to continue Jo’s legacy for
years to come.
Katie Slade, Chairman of Dorset Food &
Arts Festival says: “On behalf of the festival
committee I would like to thank all the
visitors to the festival for their amazing
support. The festival showcased incredible
Dorset food and arts and was a fitting
tribute to the lovely Jo Yeatman. We very
much look forward to next year on Saturday,
4 August 2018.”

There will also be the chance to buy one of
the exclusive festival pint cups and celebrate
all things Dorset with a refreshing locally-
made tipple.
One of the most popular facets for the
Festival are demonstrations by food experts
and chefs, which this year included Lesley
Waters, Mark Hartstone of La Fosse and
Luke Stuart of White Pepper chef academy
& cookery school.
There was also the return of the popular
butchery demonstration, this year by
Poundbury’s own Brace of Butchers.
On the day there is live music, activities
for children and families enjoy taking part.
For the first time this year, the Festival
had a major visual arts focus with paintings,
ceramics and photography on show, and
a demonstration by one of Dorset’s best
known potters. This was held in the Jubilee
Hall on Queen Mother Square.
The Festival also supports four local
charities, Weldmar Hospicecare,
Fortuneswell Cancer Trust, The Dorchester
Opportunity Group and the Royal
Agricultural Benevolent Institution.

he free event saw crowds enjoy
more than 50 stalls lining
Queen Mother Square, and
now to whet your appetite the
date for next year has been
announced as Saturday, 4 August 2018.
The Festival is held as always on the
Saturday closest to the late Queen Mother’s
birthday, following the successful pattern of
previous years with free entry for all.
Dorset Food & Arts Festival was originally
held in 2012 as a one-off celebration of the
best of Dorset produce, in the year of the
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic
Games in London and at Weymouth
and Portland.
From the start, the Festival was generously
supported by The Duchy of Cornwall, and
sponsored by local businesses, developers
and Hall & Woodhouse, which has the new
Duchess of Cornwall Inn on the square.
It’s all about celebrating the best of local
produce and next year will see more than
50 local food and drink stalls to peruse and
sample, including the regular Poundbury
Dorset Farmers’ Market stallholders.
This is a fantastic opportunity for festival-
goers to meet the producers and find out
more about the provenance of the food and
