From woodwork to special effects, a new
company is providing tuition on a number
of skills and crafts
Skill Shop is a new website that lists workshops and lessons with expert
teachers/coaches in the Dorset area. Many of the teachers are based in
Poundbury, including Vanessa from the Poundbury Florist on Lydgate
Street, who runs regular weekly workshops ranging from how to hand-
tie a bouquet, basket arrangement and contemporary arrangement. This
two-hour course has a six person maximum and usually takes place on a
Wednesday evening.
Vanessa took over the Poundbury Florist in 2016, and now spends her
time creating beautiful bouquets for local residents, passing on some of
her knowledge whenever she finds the time.
Other lessons available in Poundbury include a scrumptious time
baking with Nicci and Emma from The Angel Cake Company, next door
on Lydgate Street.
The lesson has the fantastic title of Decorate Your Own Unicorn Cake.
Here you can learn how to make and apply butter icing and mould your
very own sugar craft unicorn.
Nicci and Emma will provide you with one of their signature vanilla
sponge cakes, filled with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream, for
you to decorate and take home. Over the course of a two-hour lesson,
you’ll learn skills that can be transferred to any cake you might want to
decorate in future, allowing you to add a special touch to any birthday
party or event.
We think these workshops are a great way for visitors to experience
Poundbury and connect with a local business owner.
Skill Shop also has teachers based in Dorchester, Shaftesbury and the
wider Dorset area. For more information check out the website:
