Celebrating 75 years of the NHS | Page 22

As a patient volunteer at Keele Medical School , I am excited to write these words of congratulations !
It is such an honour to use my experience with illness to help shape and educate up-and-coming doctors . Not only have I been able to offer hands-on practice for medical examinations , but also have been gifted the opportunity to answer questions such as , “ How does type 1 diabetes impact your daily life ?”, and “ What is the one thing you as a patient would want us to know that would make us better doctors ?” Wow . Such important questions .
And I know I already used the word ‘ honoured ’, but I ’ m not sure how else to express my feelings within the role of ‘ patient volunteer ’. These students give me hope for not only my future , but for the future of all those who will be sick and in need of help in the coming years .
Happy Birthday NHS ! Keep making great doctors !
