Celebrating 75 years of the NHS | Page 10

NHS @ 75
I ’ m sure that anyone having treatment for a medical condition will undergo a personal journey and have their own story to tell . My journey with thumb base osteoarthritis was no exception . It was longer than anticipated , had its ups and downs , and involved many incredibly skilled people who helped me to a successful outcome .
It became clear that as I was learning more about my disease , so were the surgeons , clinicians and therapists , because they were constantly developing new techniques , pushing boundaries and looking for ways to make life better for patients .
Being invited to be a public member of a research project has given me real insight into how medical improvements are made . It has also provided me with an opportunity to give evidential feedback and hopefully use my own training in communication and management to guide and support the project . If my input has been useful , it has been a very rewarding way to contribute and give something back to those dedicated practitioners .
