TCC Wellness Committee has been busy!
By: Jennifer Freeman
The Wellness Committee works to generate
and promote ideas and activities seeking to optimize
health and general wellness as part of a strategic effort to increase workplace satisfaction and student
success at TCC. Committee membership is open to all
interested employees and currently is comprised of
representatives from several departments across all
campuses, including campus police, human resources,
student health, fitness centers, student activities, faculty, administrative assistants, academic counselors,
and is currently recruiting students to serve in an advisory capacity.
In January the committee sent out the premier issue of TCC Student Health 101, an online campus
newsletter that includes articles written by professionals in the fields of nutrition, mental health, substance abuse, and other wellness –related areas. According to the committee, “a goal (of this project) is to
enhance the quality and timeliness of health information, referrals, and notices of screenings offered ...,
as well as to increase the consistency of content across
campuses, thus increasing the chances of positive
changes in the health and wellness of TCC students and employees”.
February 28th, committee members
Angela Summers and Jennifer Freeman attended a luncheon at the Cox Convention Center in
OKC, where TCC was recognized as a Certified
Healthy Oklahoma –Excellent Level Campus
for 2012. Certified Healthy Oklahoma, a program of the State Department of Health, recognizes schools, communities, businesses, and
campuses across the state that makes good
health a priority. TCC was recognized for its
efforts to promote the health of its students
and employees.
