Sesquicentennial Commemoration

The Tulsa Community College Civil War Sesquicentennial
Commemoration has successfully concluded its first
year, focusing on the years 1859-60. In addition to
showing various relevant films and documentaries, and
holding a Civil War Sesquicentennial Essay Contest, the
following events were produced:

North and South: Where Do They Lie?”
President Tom McKeon, Mayor Kathy Taylor, and Speaker of
the House Chris Benge were among those introducing the
events. Funds for this year’s presentations were provided by a
Faculty Innovation Grant (FIG). Presentations and events commemorating the years 1860-61 are in the planning stage. It is

intended that the Commemoration continue through 2015,
matching the last year of the Civil War.
