Distance Learning: LRC Tools for Getting Off-Campus Help By Lauren Ajamie As the distance learning options increase at TCC, and as the Learning Resources Center puts a greater emphasis on electronic resources, students, faculty and staff can do more and more of their work from off-campus. Unfortunately, using these resources isn’t as simple as stopping by the LRC and browsing the right section of shelves: we provide access to over 60,000 electronic books from 10 vendors, and nearly 354,000 articles from 60,000 journals in 120 databases. Navigating to, and then through, the huge variety of sources to find the information you need can be a challenge. At the LRC, we understand that, and we’ve been working on ways to help students and faculty do their research more efficiently. Via our virtual librarian, Kim Monday, about 20 librarians and staff answer questions by text message and instant message whenever the LRC is open.
