OUTDOOR
A WEDDING WITH A DIFFERENCE
STRUCTURES
More and more people are choosing to be married outdoors in a garden structure. Many
of our venues in Lincolnshire now have outdoor structures where a ceremony can be held.
Ceremonies need to be held under a fixed roof, in a structure that has been licensed for
marriage, so they cannot just take place anywhere!
Marriages and civil partnerships are not allowed
to take place outdoors in temporary or movable
structures such as marquees or a boat. However
certain licensed venues offer a permanent outdoor
pergola, gazebo or pavilion, where it is possible to
hold your ceremony, weather permitting. Please
check with the venue.
Please remember that, with the great British
summer being what it is, it will not always be
possible to hold a ceremony outdoors due to
inclement weather, be it too hot, cold or windy!

It will be the Registration Officer’s decision on
the day whether the ceremony can take place
outdoors. They will need to consider the safety
and wellbeing of the guests as well as the
protection of the Marriage Register, which is the
only official record of the ceremony. Please do
not let it spoil your day if the ceremony cannot
take place outdoors for whatever reason. Make
sure you have a back-up plan and select another
room at the venue and remember, it must be big
enough to accommodate all your guests.
