Playing Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls In the 1990’s you had your Broadway debut when you played the role of Nathan Detroit (along with Nathan Lane) in Guys and Dolls. Was it one of your long-held ambitions to work on Broadway? Most certainly. I started in live theatre and have been making a lucrative living at it since MASH went out of production. When we were doing MASH a young actor who was touring with a show called “Grease” had a guest role on our show. He was despondent and depressed with his career and where it was heading. I befriended him and gave him a nice pep talk and encouraged him. Later he went on to be a successful Broadway director. He never forgot my kindness, so when the time came to replace Nathan Lane, he asked me to take over. Quite an honor. And a NICE show business story. The park where you used to spend time in your youth was renamed "Jamie Farr Park" in 1998. How did you feel to receive this honour? I was overjoyed and humbled by the honor.
