Editor ’ s Message from Nazam Anhar
Ahlan ! – and welcome to the first issue of CedarWorld Magazine . To tell you a little about myself : I ’ m a Lebanese- Australian , and a children ’ s author . I have always been interested in the history and culture of Lebanon . When my first novel was published , I was very pleased to have a chance to write a work set in the ancient world of the Phoenicians : Milad : The Voyage to Ophir . This is the story of a Phoenician boy learning to become a sailor ( Milad is available in the US from www . lebanesebooks . com ) If you would like to know more about me , please see my author profile on the Scholastic Australia website : www . scholastic . com . au
One of the reasons I wanted to write Milad was to show a positive image of a Lebanese boy , as the hero of a children ’ s adventure story . Through this magazine , I also hope to celebrate the many achievements of people of Lebanese heritage around the world : the contributions they have made in all areas of life in their communities , and how they enriched the culture of the lands where they have settled . In this first issue , I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to interview some very distinguished people , working in a wide variety of fields , of many ages , and from many different parts of the world – all linked by their Lebanese heritage . I would like to thank all of them most sincerely for sharing their stories .
I would welcome suggestions and contributions for future issues of the magazine – on people , events and issues related to the Lebanese community all around the world . This magazine aims to be inclusive and respectful of all communities . We will not accept any material of a political , sectarian or divisive nature . You can send enquiries to : editor _ cedarworld @ yahoo . com We will also be featuring a selection of mail from readers – if you would like to submit a message for publication , please send them to this address , with “ Reader Mail ” in the subject line . If you would like to be notified when new issues of CedarWorld are published , you only need to send an email with “ Notice ” as the subject .
One of the things that struck me when I was putting together the articles for this issue were the themes that linked the stories – themes such as music , history and art – which connected people widely separated in time and place . And basically that is what I hope this magazine will be about : making connections .
