Editor’s Message from Nazam Anhar Ahlan! – and welcome to the first issue of CedarWorld Magazine. To tell you a little about myself: I’m a Lebanese-Australian, and a children’s author. I have always been interested in the history and culture of Lebanon. When my first novel was published, I was very pleased to have a chance to write a work set in the ancient world of the Phoenicians: Milad: The Voyage to Ophir. This is the story of a Phoenician boy learning to become a sailor (Milad is available in the US from www.lebanesebooks.com) If you would like to know more about me, please see my author profile on the Scholastic Australia website: www.scholastic.com.au One of the reasons I wanted to write Milad was to show a positive image of a Lebanese boy, as the hero of a children’s adventure story. Through this magazine, I also hope to celebrate the many achievements of people of Lebanese heritage around the world: the contributions they have made in all areas of life in their communities, and how they enriched the culture of the lands where they have settled. In this first issue, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to interview some very distinguished people, working in a wide variety of fields, of many ages, and from many different parts of the world – all linked by their Lebanese heritage. I would like to thank all of them most sincerely for sharing their stories.
