When do I wake up? I don’t know. At this point, I don’t know anything. Darkness is all that I feel. It caresses me and
hugs me. At this point, the darkness is my friend. I would look around if I could, but I am in a timeless place. Maybe
I’m nowhere at all, just in a state of mind…
The lights come on, blinding me. I look around for the first time in I don’t know how long. I am in a dark room with
wooden walls. A man with a flashlight stands over my body. I am covered in a blanket, and a small can of food sits at
my feet.
“You should eat up,” says the man, gesturing to the can.
I find a spoon in the can and devour the small meal, selling out any dignity I might have left for a can of beans. “Thank
you,” I croak.
“Don’t thank me for anything,” the man smirks, and I know instantly that this is all a ploy.
“Because you captured me,” I guess. The man nods.
“What’s your name?” My captor asks.
“Tarryn Gills,” I reply without hesitation.
“Are you going to feed me trash and lies?” The man raises an eyebrow.
“It depends,” I shoot back. “Would you do that to me?”
