Creative Corner Take a look behind the curtain of middle school fine arts. Below is a snapshot of what Bessie Coleman and W.S. Permenter middle schools offer students. Find details at chisd.net under each campus page. Band/Orchestra The Coleman and Permenter band programs offer three levels of classes — beginner, symphonic and honors. The beginner class teaches students to read music and play an instrument. The symphonic class introduces students to more challenging music, and the honors course teaches advanced sight reading, key signatures, dynamics and meters. Both schools offer beginner and honors orchestra. Many students start with little exposure to classical music or their instrument, but those who stay in the program through high school graduate as well-rounded musicians.    Choir and Theatre Amazing collaborations take place in middle school fine arts. Students in choir and theatre compete in UIL and host performances. Each school will feature joint productions in November.   The Permenter theatre department’s production of the musical comedy “It’s All in Your Mind: the Fantastical Adventure of a Teenage Drama Queen” explores a day in the life of a 14-year-old girl. Students take the stage at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in Hawkins Hall inside Cedar Hill High School. Tickets are $5. Coleman students transport their audience to Whoville and bring to life Dr. Seuss’ most well-known characters in “Seussical the Musical” at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, in Hawkins Hall. Tickets are $10. The choir departments at both schools will host a joint concert Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. 14
