Arc. Dr. Lanre Towry-Coker

His service to the Architecture Profession brings deserved recognition for his lifetime of achievements. Dr. Towry Coker’ s impressive achievement runs the gamut from award-winning designs to outstanding firm leadership to creative and innovative service.
As an ardent believer of the potentials of this country, he provided leadership in moving the society forward by being a member of various committees on Housing matters, Transportation issues and the Sustainability of Megacities in Developing Countries.
During his tenure as the pioneer Honourable Commissioner for Housing in Lagos State between 1999 – 2003, he completed four large abandoned Housing Estates and initiated fifteen others in the State. He has also served in different offices in Lagos State as Chairman, Lagos State Waste Disposal Board( 1984- 85); Chairman, Lagos State Luna Parks( 1985); Chairman, Lagos State Investment Promotion Council; Member, Lagos State Tenders Board and Member, Technical Committee on Open Spaces. At the National level, Arc. Towry-Coker served as a Member of the Presidential Technical Committee on Housing and Urban Development between 2001-2002 and also as Special Adviser on Housing and Urban Development for the during which he conducted a study on the approach to Housing delivery in South Africa.
Towry-Coker Associates founded in 1976 as an Architectural Firm by Dr. Lanre Towry-Coker has since grown into a large multi-disciplinary practice of Architects, Project Managers, Planners, Interior Designers, Landscape Designers and Quantity Surveyors. With expertise garnered over 40 years, TCA has remained in the frontline of the profession, winning design competitions locally and internationally, which include: Master Plan for the then new Federal Capital in Abuja( 1977), Abuja Sheraton Hotel, Abuja International Conference Centre, Mobil Oil Residential Development V / I, Shell Residential Development, Ikoyi, World Bank Mission HQ in Abuja, amongst others.
Arc. Dr. Lanre Towry-Coker served the Nigerian Institute of Architects as Chairman, Public Relations Committee and Chairman, International Relations Committee, during which he led numerous delegations of the Institute to events of International Professional Bodies like the Australian Commonwealth Institute of Architects, World Photo-Voltaic Association, International Union of Architects and the U. S. Building Business Symposium in 1997. He has represented our noble profession well and his latest achievement makes us proud.
The Executive Council and entire Membership of the Nigerian Institute of Architects congratulate and celebrate Arc. Dr. Lanre Towry-Coker as the first Nigerian to be elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in recognition of your influence in both the public and private sectors. It is an honour well-deserved.
