President ’ s Message
Greetings ,
As we delve into the latest edition of our monthly newsletter and end our 2022-2023 academic year , I am once again filled with immense pride and gratitude for the extraordinary achievements of our Charles R . Drew University of Medicine and Science ( CDU ) community .
Throughout the past month , we have witnessed remarkable stories that exemplify the essence of our mission and vision .
On a personal note , it was a landmark month for me in particular . This included the honor of delivering the Meharry Medical College commencement address from the Grand Ole Opry House in Tennessee as well as journeying to Georgia to participate in a field roundtable at Morehouse School of Medicine with Chairperson Senator Bernie Sanders to address the staffing and diversity crisis in our nation ’ s health care workforce .
This month also saw CDU commemorate the exceptional life and legacy of Dr . Wilbert C . Jordan , founder of the OASIS Clinic and a true champion of action and compassion during the AIDS epidemic . His achievements in life are a stunning reminder of the transformative ability of education and compassion in addressing societal challenges .
It has also been a banner month for the Mervyn M . Dymally College of Nursing ( MMDCON ), which received accreditation for the Doctor of Nursing Practice program and was recognized as one of the Best Graduate Nursing Schools by U . S . News & World Report . These achievements further highlight the excellence and quality of our educational programs . It is a testament to the exceptional faculty , staff , and students who continuously strive for excellence in health care education and practice .
I encourage you all to absorb the myriad of achievements and initiatives undertaken by the CDU community as highlighted in this newsletter . Let these stories be a testament to the power of education , compassion , and collaboration in transforming lives and creating a brighter future for all . I expect you will find inspiration , as I do , in these great accomplishments .
