Drew CARES Hosts Inaugural Men ’ s Health Fair
In celebration of National Men ’ s Health Month , Drew CARES hosted the inaugural Men ’ s Health Fair at Martin Luther King Jr . Outpatient Center located across the street from the University campus . The health fair offered free health screenings , swag bags and community resources . Individuals who tested for HIV were able to get a free cooked to order In-N-Out meal and a haircut .
“ Events like these are important for the community , especially for men of color ,” said Leon Maultsby , Drew CARES Associate Director . “ This was a great celebration to kick off National Men ’ s Health Month .”
CDU ’ s Drew CARES researchers fight the HIV / AIDS epidemic by studying the behavioral and clinical aspects of HIV / AIDS prevention and treatment . Their research strengthens the work of scientific collaborators and community partners , as well as improves the quality of services CDU offers while providing rich opportunities for students to become involved in all aspects of the research process .
The fair , in partnership with Martin Luther King Jr . Outpatient Center , allowed CDU nursing students to volunteer at the booths . Mark Fuentes , Field Deputy for Assemblymember Mike Gipson , and Cheo Leslie , Field Representative for Senator Steven Bradford , were also present at the fair .
Men ’ s Health Month is celebrated every June and brings awareness to health issues men face , and encourages them to take care of their health .
