Meet and Greet Held for Incoming Dean and Interim Provost
The Office of Academic Affairs hosted a Meet and Greet welcoming Dr . Gail Washington , incoming Dean of the Mervyn M . Dymally School of Nursing and Dr . Sylvia Manning , Interim Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Interim Provost .
Dr . Washington joins CDU following her role as Professor and Director of the recently named Patricia A . Chin School of Nursing at California State University Los Angeles . Dr . Washington ’ s career in higher education began at Compton College in the 1990s where she served as a Nursing Instructor . She looks forward to returning to the community where her career in higher education began .
“ I ’ m just so excited , a little teary eyed now because I do feel as if I ’ ve come home … I ’ m looking at this place and it ’ s tremendous , it ’ s amazing , all that you are doing , all that you ’ ve done and all that you can do and I want to be here a part of you as we raise our nursing program to a national level ,” shared Dr . Washington .
Dr . Manning comes to CDU after several decades of experience in academic administration . She most recently served as Interim President of Western University of Health Sciences , as Interim President of Shepherd University in West Virginia , and as President of the Higher Learning Commission .
“ This University ’ s vision and mission are so clear , so precise , so focused … this place knows what it ’ s for , it knows why it ’ s here and that ‘ why ’ is a really good thing ,” said Dr . Manning . “ I am honored , I am humbled and I really look forward to working every day for the next several months with and for all of you .”
Faculty , staff , students , and the community were all in attendance to celebrate the newest additions to the CDU community , along with other guests that attended virtually .
