Social Justice Society Holds Reproductive Rights March
The Social Justice Society ( SJS ), a CDU student group , held a Reproductive Rights March on campus during July . The mission of the event was to shed light on the injustices faced by women in health care access in the shadow of the Supreme Court ’ s recent decision to overturn Roe v . Wade .
“ In light of recent events we wanted to find a way to bring awareness and to put some action with our campus and with everyone here that wants to support the reproductive right ’ s movement and making sure that we can continue fighting so that women can have the right to have an abortion ,” said Jacqui Simon , SJS Co-Vice President and Physician Assistant ( PA ) student . “ That ’ s something that ’ s huge for us as a healthcare school so we want to make sure that we are doing our part to try and make a difference .”
SJS was created by a group of PA program students on campus following George Floyd ’ s death in 2020 .
“ Students were looking for ways of how they could bridge gaps in justice , gaps in health care , and all around , so we created this social justice society to fight against any inequality ,” shared Charity Ezeamama , SJS President and PA student , Class of 2022 . “ It was then adopted and expanded to include the whole student body .”
In addition to marches , SJS holds a variety of events each year including food drives and blood drives . The organization is also involved with the community through healthcare , working primarily with City of Hope and Calvary Baptist churches .
