APLA Clinic Holds Grand Opening for New Health Center on Campus

APLA Health held an official grand opening for the clinic on the CDU campus this summer . This federally qualified health center will provide low-cost health services that include dental , behavioral , and medical healthcare along with STD screenings , treatment , education , and more .
“ This building represents the confluence of APLA Health ’ s and CDU ’ s laser-like commitment to improving the health and well-being of communities of color in South Los Angeles ,” said Dr . Carlisle , CDU President and CEO . “ It is the physical manifestation of what can be achieved through partnership and cooperation .”
Attendees were able to receive a tour of the facility , as well as hear from special speakers including APLA Health CEO Craig E . Thompson , CDU President and CEO David Carlisle , Assemblymember Mike Gipson , and Senator Steve Bradford .
“ Communities of color face layers of racism and systemic marginalization exacerbating existing health and social inequities in our communities and across the country ,” shared Senator Bradford . “ The LGBTQ community needs and deserves healthcare services without barriers and without biases . We thank APLA Health for being a trusted community partner .”
The new facility holds six exam rooms , five counseling rooms , four dental chairs , two laboratories and a Vance North Necessities of Life Program food pantry , to name a few features .
APLA Health has a long-standing commitment to improving the health and well-being of Black and Latinx communities in South Los Angeles . We have offered our services on the MLK Medical Campus since 2005 , serving the needs of the surrounding communities of Watts , Compton , Lynwood and Willowbrook .
