CDU Opens Newly Remodeled Chemistry Lab

CDU held a special opening for the newly remodeled Chemistry Instructional Laboratory . The revamped and updated space will be used for labs and lectures for students in the undergraduate biomedical sciences and postbaccalaureate courses .
“ This was a previously underutilized space , and we had the vision to create a lab that can be used to do experiments in organic chemistry , in biotechnology , and general technology ,” said Dr . Monica Ferrini , Dean of the College of Science and Health . “ This is an important milestone for the
University , for the College of Science and Health , and the Department of Health and Life Sciences .”
The lab contains up-to-date laboratory equipment , ductless fume hoods for laboratory safety , water purification systems , and more . A cell culture room is also in the works to allow students to expand their lab and research repertoire .
The remodeling of the lab was made possible thanks to funding and grants from LA County Fund Allocation , Chan Zuckerberg Initiative , Kaiser Permanente , and Hologic .
“ When the University had an opportunity to receive funding , it was important to us to redo this lab because of our focus on excellence at the University . We want our students , our faculty , to have excellent equipment and experiences which includes the learning environment ,” said Angela Minniefield , Senior Vice President , Advancement and Operations and COO . “ We utilize the resources that we receive with the utmost care and the utmost efficiency , all to make the learning environment better for the university .”
