President ’ s Message
Greetings ,
Spring has arrived at CDU . With its theme of renewal and rejuvenation , the turning of the season beckons us to reflect on the past and look forward with anticipation to the possibilities that lie ahead . At CDU , we embrace this season as a symbol of the ongoing evolution in healthcare education , community engagement , and our relentless pursuit of equity and excellence .
This spirit of transformation is especially poignant as we approach the 40th CDU Commencement Ceremony in May , inspired by Angela Y . Davis ’ s powerful words , “ I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change . I am changing the things I cannot accept .”
This ethos is not only a call to action for our graduating students but resonates through every facet of our University ’ s endeavors . It challenges us to confront and address the health disparities that persist in our communities , to innovate in our approach to healthcare delivery , and to nurture a new generation of leaders who are equipped and inspired to make a tangible impact .
The stories featured in this issue of our newsletter embody this commitment . From addressing health disparities among Black Californians to forging strategic partnerships aimed at overcoming physician shortages and health inequities , CDU stands at the forefront of transformative change .
Our celebration of heritage and unity , through the Divine Nine tribute and other Black History Month events , underscores the rich cultural legacy that informs and enriches our work . Meanwhile , initiatives like the Drew CARES event highlight the importance of holistic well-being and the power of community in advancing public health .
As we bask in the success of our Match Day event and celebrate the appointment of a CDU alumna in a pivotal role with the city of Los Angeles , we are reminded of the far-reaching impact of our collective efforts . Together , we are not just witnessing change ; we are driving it , armed with the knowledge that what we do here extends far beyond our campus .
