CDU COM Dean Receives Prestigious Excellence in Education Award

The award was presented at the Club ’ s Annual
Awards Dinner , held on June 23 , at the Huntington
Library , Art Museum , and Botanical Gardens .

January 1st , 1863 , the Emancipation Proclamation set enslaved folks free …
Officially … but kinda unofficially because we still have Amendment 13 , but I digress …
It took two and a half whole years to reach the slaves down in Texas
I can stand here and give you the history , but I ’ ll leave you to figure out what the rest is
Because the truth is when you look like me , You are always the last to know
We are always the last to know But the first to believe
To hold onto hope of a better time So let us sing our spirituals , proudly yelling “ They Not Like Us ” Because they ain ’ t
Quite simply they can ’ t
Endure what we endure and still manage to make it
Hanging our hope on faith in the things not seen because
We are always the last to know But the first to believe
That a better time is around the corner , or up the street
So , we spin the block and pull up to the cookouts
Because when you look like me You make a celebration out of anything
