Greetings ,
As the vibrant energy of a new school year energizes our campus , it is with great excitement that I extend a warm welcome to our new students embarking on their journey with Charles R . Drew University of Medicine and Science . To those returning from a summer break , welcome back ; your dedication and commitment continue to inspire us .
In this edition of our monthly newsletter , we encapsulate the dynamic pulse of CDU ’ s busy summer – a season marked by achievements , milestones , and impactful initiatives .
From welcoming the inaugural cohort of our historic MD program to hosting enriching events that inspire the future medical leaders of our nation , our summer was brimming with purpose . As we continue to blaze a trail in diversifying the physician workforce , we stand resolute in our dedication to cultivating equitable access to quality care in underserved communities .
Recognition also graced our doorstep , highlighting the impactful strides we are making . The 2023 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award underscores our commitment to fostering excellence and diversity in the fields of science , technology , engineering , and mathematics .
Our collaborations , like the profound partnership with The California Wellness Foundation you will read about in this issue , spotlight the alignment of our visions – a shared commitment to health equity and justice . Empowered voices echoed as our students attended a Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Meeting , advocating for debt relief and support for student borrowers , illustrating the power of our community to drive change .
We are fortunate as a University to have such an excellent cadre of students , staff , and faculty as we sow the seeds of transformation in the healthcare landscape . As we look ahead to this new academic year , I greatly anticipate seeing what we can achieve together through the collective resolve that propels us .
This summer , CDU ’ s heartbeat echoed through every achievement and initiative , reminding us that our pursuit of excellence , innovation , and equity in healthcare remains unwavering .
