PRESIDENT ’ S MESSAGE
It is with great pleasure and immense pride that I present to you the 2022 Charles R . Drew University of Medicine and Science annual report for the academic year . This comprehensive collection of stories and achievements provides a powerful testament to the dedication and unwavering commitment of our University to its mission .
As I reflect on our journey over the past year , I am reminded of the core values that have guided our institution since its inception . CDU was founded in the wake of the Watts Uprising with a clear mission to cultivate diverse health professions leaders who are dedicated to social justice and health equity for underserved populations . This year ' s annual report encapsulates the extraordinary efforts made by the faculty , staff , students , partners , neighbors , and more who make up the extended CDU Community in pursuit of that mission . Their commitment to uphold CDU ’ s values and make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of our society in pursuit of achieving a world without health disparities is inspirational .
Reading through these pages , you will encounter an inspiring array of stories that highlight the various activities , initiatives , and successes that unfolded throughout the academic year on our campus and beyond . One theme that resounds throughout these narratives is an unwavering dedication to making a real change for the better . This comes from a genuine drive to foster the growth and development of our students in their journeys to become compassionate and competent health care professionals in their respective fields .
It is worth noting that much of what has been achieved by the CDU community this year was done so under the weighty shadow of an ongoing COVID-19 pandemic . This understandably created a range of hurdles and difficulties along the way , but ultimately proved to be an opportunity for the amazing Mighty Lion spirit to shine brightly , even in the darkest of times .
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the entire Charles R . Drew University of Medicine and Science community . It is through your collective passion and tireless efforts that we have been able to achieve the accomplishments shared in this report . I am continually inspired by the extraordinary work of our faculty , staff , students , partners , and other supporters . It is because of all of you that I see only bright things ahead for this University . I am honored to serve as this noble institution ’ s President and CEO .
