APHA Names HIV / AIDS Section Award After Professor Cynthia Davis
The American Public Health Association named an award after Professor Cynthia Davis . The award – Dr . Cynthia Davis Award for Outstanding Community Leadership and Advocacy in HIV / AIDS – will be presented each year to a member of the HIV / AIDS Section who has made outstanding contributions in community driven leadership and advocacy in the field of HIV / AIDS .
“ I am very proud of the fact that the HIV / AIDS Section of APHA identified me to be the recipient of this award ,” said Dr . Davis , Professor in the Master of Public Health in Urban Health Disparities program . “ It is my hope that my lifetime of work in HIV / AIDS primary prevention , risk reduction and advocacy will continue to inspire young health professionals to not only seek out careers in Public Health , but inspire them to continue my legacy of proactively eliminating numerous barriers experienced by medically underserved people of color populations and communities attempting to gain access to quality and culturally relevant healthcare and support services .”
This award commemorates the legacy of Dr . Davis who with nearly four decades of tireless passion , has worked to address the socio-structural barriers of HIV / AIDS among underserved and disenfranchised people of color and communities on local , national and international levels .
