CDU Campus Undergoes Renovations
Several CDU campus renovations were completed , taking advantage of the closed campus to tackle some upgrade projects . One of those projects was the renovation of the Learning and Healing Gardens that connect the Student Wellness Center to the CDU Student Center . The refreshed look includes new benches , planter beds , and citrus trees .
Other projects included the renovation of the Physician Assistant Program ’ s homeroom , an upgrade to the classroom teaching / learning technologies , the addition of storage and lockers , and the creation of break-out learning spaces .
CDU Receives Award For ‘ Institutional Excellence ’
CDU received the 2021 Josiah Macy Jr . Foundation Award in the category of “ Institutional Excellence ” at a virtual event hosted by the Beyond Flexner Alliance . The purpose of Josiah Macy Jr . Foundation Awards is to recognize outstanding leadership in promoting social mission in health professions education , making programs not only better , but more equitable .
“ We are deeply honored to receive a 2021 Josiah Macy Jr . Foundation award ,” shared CDU President and CEO Dr . David M . Carlisle . “ This award recognizes 55 years of valiant effort by our faculty , students , researchers and graduates as they work for health equity , particularly in under-resourced communities . The Beyond Flexner Alliance shares our vision of a world without health disparities , and is actively working to achieve that goal .”
Claire Pomeroy , Chair for Awards Sub-committee for the Beyond Flexner Alliance , and President of The Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation said that the coronavirus pandemic highlighted the importance of CDU ’ s work in caring for the vulnerable and addressing social determinants of health .
“ We are pleased to honor CDU for their long-standing contributions to the social mission in education , in recognition of their innovative commitment to training health professionals who are dedicated to health equity ,” said Pomeroy . “ The values instilled in trainees at CDU positions its graduates to lead our nation in the fundamental health care reform and redesign that is so urgently needed .”
