Global Compassion, Local Impact: CDU Journeys to the Dominican Republic
CDU students, staff, and faculty journeyed to the Dominican Republic during the month of January to participate in a Medical Service-Learning Trip. Students visited rustic villages known as“ bateys” and semi-urban barrios to offer vital medical assistance and observe the social determinants of health in the Dominican Republic.
There were various stations at the bateys including HIV care and testing, sexual education, vitals, deworming for children, eye class, and pharmacy. The trip was organized and supported by Light a Candle and CDU’ s Office of International Affairs.
