FACULTY AWARDS
THE PAC12 HEALTH EQUITY SUMMIT
CDU celebrated the exceptional contributions of its faculty members through the 10th Annual Outstanding Faculty Awards . The awards recognized individuals who have gone above and beyond in their contributions to CDU and its community :
• Outstanding Service Award was bestowed upon Dr . Arthur W . Fleming and Glenda Lindsey for their exceptional commitment to serving the university and its broader community .
• Outstanding Teaching Award was awarded to Jennifer Comini , acknowledging her excellence and innovation in teaching that enhances student learning and engagement .
• Outstanding Research Award was given to Dr . Shahrzad Bazargan for her significant contributions to advancing knowledge through her research efforts .
• Outstanding Clinical Educator Award recognized Dr . Eleby Washington for his exceptional guidance and mentorship in clinical education .
• Outstanding Professor Award was presented to Dr . Mohsen Bazargan , who was also honored for his service as faculty trustee to the CDU Board of Trustees from 2017-2023 .
COMMUNITY SAFETY
COMPLETED THE FBI ' S CITIZENS ACADEMY
In December 2022 , CDU staff members Armando Estrada , Director of Risk Management and Campus Safety , and Jason Taylor , Campus Safety Manager , successfully completed the FBI ' s Citizens Academy Program . This eight-week course offered them unparalleled insights into the operations and challenges of the FBI , highlighting the significant yet often unseen efforts to maintain community safety .
CDU WOMEN OF DISTINCTION
2023 AWARDS
The CDU Staff Council announced the 2023 CDU Women of Distinction Award recipients :
Dr . Bita Amani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urban Public Health at CDU who has founded and led numerous initiatives such as the Cuban Health Exchange , the UCLA / CDU COVID-19 Racism and Equity Task Force , and the CDU Black Maternal Health Center of Excellence .
DR . ANDREW LAM
DIRECTOR OF THE CDU SIMULATION CENTER
Dr . Andrew Lam , Director of the CDU Simulation Center and a valued faculty member was recognized by the California State Legislature Assembly for his contribution to clinical simulation and higher education at the Mervyn M . Dymally College of Nursing . The certificate was presented by Assemblymember Mike A . Gipson of the 65th Assembly District .
Kathleen Arakaki , who works in the Office of the President as the Chief of Staff of the University , has helped bring numerous initiatives to fruition , including the feline Trap-Neuter-Release program .
Raquel Munoz serves as the University Registrar . She was born and raised in Southern California and is committed to serving her community through mentorship and volunteer work .
Claudia Ramirez is the Helpdesk Manager at CDU and , during her tenure , has seen the Helpdesk grow to five members , processing over 8,900 work orders yearly .
