Founded in 1849 , CCSU is the oldest public university in the state of Connecticut and one of New England ’ s premiere institutions of higher education . Central Connecticut is a regional , comprehensive public university dedicated to learning in the liberal arts and sciences and to education for the professions .
CCSU enrolls just over 12,000 students and the diversity of the student population has risen to 31 % in 2015 . ( US Labor Department )
Financial support for students has risen by 85 % since 2005-06 , going from $ 57.7 million to $ 97.5 million in 2015-16 .
The graduation rate in 2015-16 for Central students was 57 % and is now graduating 43 % more students in six years than in 2005-06 . That graduation rate will put CCSU into the top quartile nationally among master ’ s degree institutions . ( IPEDS )
