Internships and summer are like peanut butter and jelly. It’s not a complete summer if you don’t have an internship, especially in the fashion industry. I feel that being here at FIT with opportunity’s just swimming beneath our feet, waiting for us to grab them, we as fashion students have to take every opportunity we can. I remember starting school here at FIT and hearing how this person works retail, has 7 classes and interns 3 days a week and still remains to be alive and breathing. When I heard that my head spun around thinking “how does she do it all?” From then on, at an early stage in my college career I took the initiative to go out and find an internship. My parent’s were shocked, not at the fact that I wanted to work but that I did it on my own and I successfully landed and Internship my first semester of being a college student. My first internship was at Lively Mag, which was an online magazine that catered to the design and fashion world. It was an unpaid position so I was basically working for free, but I wanted to put it on my resume so I kept at it. I was responsible for their social media accounts and writing   articles for their website based on new designers in the fashion and art world. I worked three days a week for 5-6 hours each day. From here on out I was used to juggling a busy life. I school, Merchandising society, style shop, friends and family, work, etc. After I had my first internship I wanted more, since I liked being busy. I then landed LANVIN as a market week showroom assistant. It was a great experience and let me tell you, they will work you to the bone. I would arrive to the studio at 8:00 that morning and I wouldn’t leave until 8:00 that night with an hour commute on top of that. It taught me a lot while I was working there, it taught me what hard work was like and I got an awesome experience out of it. My most recent and noteworthy internship took place at Tory Burch. I was considered a Liaison intern since I helped connect with multiple different departments such as e-commerce, retail operations, merchandising and product development. It was a wonderful company to work for and it made it enjoyable to go there everyday. I look forward to the future positions I will hold and I am excited to see what the future has in store for me. 33
