M A R I E A N D K YA L L M E T at a New
Year’s Eve party in 2016. After realizing
they lived only a few streets away from
one another, they became fast friends
and would go kayaking together. It was
during one of their kayaking trips that
Kyall realized he was in love with Marie.
A few months later, the day before Kyall,
a yacht captain, was leaving for a boat
trip to Central America, he confessed
his feelings. Lucky for him, Marie felt
the same and so the two officially
began dating the night before Kyall
shipped out.
As avid scuba divers, Marie and
Kyall were on a diving trip to Belize
when Kyall proposed. While on their
second dive, Kyall pulled Marie aside
and gave her a funny look. It was then
that he pulled out a slate from his BCD
(buoyancy compensator) with “Will
you marry me?” written on it. Marie
excitedly exclaimed, “Yes!” but Kyall
couldn’t understand her through the
regulator, so she nodded to make sure
he knew her answer. After the dive, the
two went for lunch and then a walk,
which was when Kyall got on one knee
and presented the most beautiful ring
Marie had ever seen.
Being from different parts of the
world, the two decided to pick a spot
that family and friends from both
sides could enjoy. The Caribbean
seemed like the perfect place and
since the Cayman Islands was only a
short distance from their home in Fort
Lauderdale, the two took a quick trip to
check it out. Upon arrival, they imme-
diately fell in love with the gorgeous
island. The food they tasted was
outstanding, and of course, the diving
was sensational. Everyone they met on
their trip offered great suggestions and
tips for planning a beautiful wedding in
the Caymans. The two were sold.
