Water – The Real Enemy of
Timber Window Seal!
Even when you have those seals installed properly, many factors can directly affect the
quality of your timber window seal. One of the biggest enemies of your timber window
seal is none other than 'water'. Not taking precautionary measures could cause
irreparable damage to your heritage windows. You should periodically check your
windows for any buildup of fog. If there is any fog along the glass, it usually means that
something is interfering with the drainage of water. When this happens, dirt and water
begin to pool up around window sealing. Over time, there will be enough water vapors
to saturate the seal and damage the silicone sealing.
You have to ensure that your windows stay protected, especially if they are in an area
that stays exposed to heavy rain. However, you need to keep in mind that the design of
the double-glazing matters a lot here. If the design does not promote drainage, there
isn't much you can do to protect the silicone from being exposed to water. the reason is
that most of the companies install double-glazing by using an IGU into a square rebate
and then they use silicone to cover the space around the glass. The process exposes
the silicone to water and makes it difficult for you to avoid any damage over time. To
avoid running into any trouble, you may want to use specially designed double glassing
systems that come with inbuilt drainage solution. Cut with the help of special tooling,
these windows encourage proper drainage and evaporation, which in turn lower the risk
of foggy windows, rotting joinery, and mold growth. By rectifying these issues, you are
less likely to deal with failed or broken timber window seals.
