My cat has a toy in which a ball spins
around and around and around
on a track,
but only when it’s pushed.
I sometimes feel like I’m that ball.
Like when somebody tells me to get a “real job,”
they bat at it, at me,
push it a little farther through the circle,
down the spiral.
