Candy-land
Elisabeth Horan
But didn’t you notice my womanly face -
Pressed up against the window pane?
My breath reaching down
through the black-tooth chimney,
I parked my broom above - for escaping;
armed with my own selfish intentions,
good faith as well retreating.
And now - I find you.
Seductively, I’m whispering:
My darling baby...
like the fire sucks at oxygen,
then nourishes a death;
I’ll ravage
of your lovely face, the taste
of caramel apple melt -
I crave your translucence, your Never-land
wings, they hold endless potential for me;
my fingers devouring ample mounds,
Your sprinkled halves
of nonpareils
and confectioners
powdered almonds.
One by one, I throw them back;
I’m wondering:
Do you feel sleepy yet -
perhaps like giving in to me yet?
So what of your sister?
Oh, I locked her up.
It’s you, that is, the treat, I crave:
Your body of
chocolate and its licorice veins!
