Emergency Medical Technician
Curriculum Description
The EMT curriculum introduces students to Emergency Medical Services. During training, students will learn to handle emergencies such as heart attacks, childbirth and how to perform skills such as splinting broken bones and maintaining a trauma patient’ s airway. This course will prepare students to take the North Carolina EMT exam. EMT class is fast paced and you must prepare ahead of time by reading and studying.
Modules of Instruction include: Preparatory, Airway, Patient assessment, Medical / behavioral and OB / GYN emergencies, Trauma, Infants and children, Operations, Advanced airway, Testing and skills, EMS Clinical
This EMT course is offered at CATS through Mitchell Community College. Therefore, students must submit a CCP application for the course. Students must be a senior to be enrolled. Students must be 18 years old to receive certification.

General Education Required Courses
• English- 4 credits
• Math- 4 credits

• Social Studies- 4 credits
• Health & Physical Education- 1 credit
• World Languages- 2 credits( required if NC college bound)
• Electives- 4 credits in any other subject area( psychology & firefighting pair well)
