FROM THE GOLF SHOP AND THE 2014 GREEN JACKET GOES TO . . . Our Green Jacket Tournament Champions are Roy Holland and his partners, Bubba Watson & Jordan Spieth. Roy’s player selection, along with his own net score of 65 was good enough for a 3 stroke victory in this year’s event. A total of 42 Cateechee members participated in the tournament, held annually on Masters Saturday. Congratulations to Roy, and thanks to all that played, making the 2014 Green Jacket Tournament another rousing success! MEMBER-MEMBER CHAMPIONS Congratulations to Doug Maxwell and Tash Van Dora for their victory in the 2014 Member-Member Tournament. Their two day total of 121 was good enough for a 6 shot victory over their nearest competitors. The other first place finishers, by flights, were Barry Cronic and Kevin Cronic in the First Flight with Steve Lurus and TJ Lee winning the Third Flight. Thanks to all who played, making the 2014 Member-Member a fantastic event! FAMILY AND BEGINNER GOLF TEES Thanks to the support some of Cateechee’s own members, you will see some new tee markers on the front nine. These tee markers will be permanently placed in appropriate positions so that we can create a “short course” program. The purpose is to simply make golf easier for beginners and to inspire families to get on the course. We will also create a scorecard, available in the golf shop, with pars and yardages for each hole. If you know someone that is just learning the game, don’t hesitate to encourage them toward these tees. It will make the game far less imposing and a great deal more fun. MENS MEMBER-GUEST TOURNAMENT Saturday & Sunday, May 17 - 18 | Entry Deadline — May 10 You should have received, by mail, an entry form for this year’s Member-Guest Tournament. If you need another entry form, please do not hesitate to pick one up in the golf shop. A great deal of planning goes into this event, so please don’t delay your entry. As always, we would like as many members as possible to invite a guest so that we can create a memorable tournament experience. The more the merrier! Return your information as soon as possible. ON THE GREEN MASON BOWERS, SENIOR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT The warmer months are now upon us, and it seems that the cold weather is behind us. The course is loving the warmer temperatures and adjusting well to the sudden changes in weather we have been experiencing. The bluebird houses along the course are chirping with activity. This is definitely a sign of promising golfing weather to come. The greens at Cateechee are in really good condition and the Bermuda grass will green up quickly, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our turf care team. We are receiving a new top-dresser that will allow us to repeatedly apply light sand applications on the greens. We feel certain that this will make an enormous impact on the overall surface of the greens as we begin to face the heat of the coming months. We will also begin hand watering of the greens and surrounding areas. Plans are in place to repair and improve the condition of the bunkers. We hope that our improvement activities will not disrupt play and you enjoy each and every day spent on our course. Our tennis facility is open for play! After much preparation, we feel confident that the playing surfaces are in excellent condition for the upcoming season. The planting of our annual flowers for summer is complete. We hope everyone enjoys the beauty they bring to our club as much as we do. We value any feedback or requests that might make your time spent here with us better. As always, thank you for supporting Cateechee! Club. w w w. c a t e e c h e e . c o m Cateechee Chronicle | May/June 2014
