I’ve always thought of grasshoppers as strictly summer fare. Heat of the day, middle of August, swamp crotch
and terrible thirst. But I recently learned that there are 5 species of hopper that over-winter. Who knew? (Shut
up, science nerds) This new discovery (for me) bore out on a river that shall remane nameless when my father
and I caught some of the biggest brown trout I have ever seen on hoppers – in the freezing-ass cold of relatively
