Participants included former members of the armed forces, Graham Dobie, now a global risk and control manager at HSBC, and Steven Lee, who works in group corporate structuring. Stressing the value of employing people from different walks of life in order to encourage diversity of thought, HSBC Digital’s global resourcing manager Russ Faulkner began by highlighting some of the qualities commonly demonstrated by ex-military, including ‘stickability’ and clear communication. As confident self-starters, they often suit financial services, he said. Dobie added that ex-military tend to be “people people”, and have a positive impact on the workforce.
