D Diversity | Catalyst Partner story Protecting mental health at work Recently, RSA Motability has placed huge focus on initiatives around mental health, as managing director Cath Frost explains in this Q&A. T ell us a bit about RSA Motability. Based in Liverpool, UK, we are the insurer of motor policies for more than 600,000 Motability customers.  The Motability Scheme enables disabled people in the UK to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair. We have around 550 employees who receive over a million calls from customers per year. What investments have you made in mental health? Our focus for 2018/19 was on understanding mental health for our customers and our employees. We’ve created bespoke training which has now been rolled out to more than 900 employees and suppliers and are working hard alexandermannsolutions.com 70 to create a safe environment in which teams can freely discuss what’s going on and how we can support them back to health and provide support after a difficult call. We believe it’s good to talk and are trying to create an environment in which everyone feels they can share. We have invested in mental health first aiders and we have a wellbeing room where people can go and talk. We know we need to equip our leaders with the tools and approaches to talk confidently to their team members about mental health. We don’t want leaders to become counsellors, but we want them to provide the right support and encouragement, and the ability to point their team members to the right experts. We want to create a learning platform where leaders can practise having those conversations to build their confidence.
